Minato Starts Construction of One Largest Solar Power Plants in Kanto Area Using Solar Sharing on Agricultural Land

18.03.13

Please be informed that on March 13, 2018, Minato Management Co., Ltd. (headquartered in 1-1-12 Toranomon, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President (CEO): Tatsuto “Tad” Kuramoto) started construction of the Isesaki-Tabei Solar Park using solar sharing on agricultural land. This is our company’s first project of this kind.

“Solar sharing” is a solar power generation project for growing crops while generating electricity with pipes and rows of photovoltaic panels on farmland.
As Japan is a small country, solar sharing, which can ensure that agriculture and renewable energies can stand side by side, is the subject of attention as a model for revitalizing regional economies.

For this solar sharing project, a solar power plant with a capacity of approx. 1.87 MW(DC) will be constructed in farmland area with an approximate area of 25,000 square meters in Isesaki City in Gunma Prefecture, Kanto Area. This is one of the largest solar power plants using solar sharing in this area. The generated electricity is planned to be sold to Tokyo Electric Power Company through the Fixed Wholesale Purchase System of Renewable Energy.

This business is developed jointly by Minato Management and Kinki Hokuto Jusetsu (a housing equipment company) Co., Ltd. (headquartered in 2373-1 Hori, Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto, Japan; President: Ryuichi Takagi) with Minato Management as the sole business owner. Kinki Hokuto Jusetsu is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction works (EPC).

With this project as the first shot into this field, through solar sharing investment, Minato Management intends to revitalize regional agriculture and economies and further expand renewable energies as well as make it possible for agriculture and power generation to go together well. Going forward, the company aims to establish a sustainable social infrastructure that is based on regional economies in cooperation with local partners.
