Minato Management has started a business regarding operating leasing of a vessel

This is to let you know that we began handling operating leasing of vessels starting in October 2016.

 
In Japan, sale and leaseback on vessels and aircraft has been commonly practiced. Investors are Japanese who wish to defer their taxable income. With usual operating lease, a Special Purpose Company acquires the target asset (vessel or aircraft), securitizes the ownership and constructs it as a fund.

 
In our main fund management operation, we have been securitizing interest in solar power generation development and management product for investors inside and outside Japan, but we have started an operating leasing management on a vessel for Japanese investors. The vessel that is securitized is owned by a fund offered by SBI Money Plaza Co., Ltd. (President: Tomohiko Ohta, Headquartered at 1-6-1 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo). We have been involved from the planning phase and that is how we were commissioned with the administrative role.

 
The product has salient characteristics as follows.

1. Investors benefit from depreciation in relation to tax laws in the first year.
2. The lessee (borrower of the vessel) may exercise the purchase option and the investment scheme may end in 5 or 7 years before the term of the lease is over.
3. We are aiming to make the leasing operation stable by selecting a good lessee (borrower of the vessel) with a good track record, and by choosing a type of vessel that has steady demand.

We will continue to offer operating lease funds based on solar power development and management and vessels and aircraft.
